What to bring

2-3 liters of water, lunch and snacks
full-day climbing trips include lunch.
Day pack, Sunscreen, whatever medications you need to have on hand, eye glass retaining straps if you wear glasses, sunglasses, and camera
Tennis shoes are fine to hike in
Clothing to suit the season and weather: Summer - loose fitting pants or shorts and a t-shirt, rain/wind gear. Warm layers in fall, winter and spring: fleece/wool top, warm hat, nylon wind shell and gloves
We provide all technical gear, which includes harnesses, helmets, climbing shoes, all hardware and ropes. Bring your own if you like.
Guide gratuities are customary for professional guides.

Plan on Spending the Day With Us

We meet near the climbing area at 8:30 AM and we should be finished by mid to late afternoon. Please be timely: see below for directions to the meeting area and climbing site.

Rain or Cancelled Trips

If we are forced to cancel your trip due to rain (possible) or for any other reason (unlikely), we will reschedule or refund your money (partial refund for partial days) - your choice. Call us the day before your trip if you are concerned about rain.

Transportation to the climbing area

You are responsible for transportation to the climbing area.

Please be on time.

Group beginner climbing trips are scheduled to leave the meeting spot for the rock at 8:30 AM. As there will be other participants on the trip in addition to your party, we will not be able to wait for your group if you are running late. If you miss your guide, you can follow the directions provided below to the actual climbing area.

Please be sure to bring plenty of water and a snack. Lunch is provided on full day trips.

Directions to the meeting area:
From USA Raft French Broad OutpostGo South West on 25/70 back towards Asheville 19 mile to intersection of 25/70 and Interstate 26.
Go West on I 26 Interstate towards Johnson City and Erwin TN.
Take exit 15 at Barnardsville and Jupiter Exit. At end of exit ramp, turn right on Barnardsville Rd and meet your guide on right shoulder parking area immediately on right.

From the Asheville, NC area. Go West on I 26 Interstate towards Johnson City and Erwin TN.
Take exit 15 at Barnardsville and Jupiter Exit. At end of exit ramp, turn right on Barnardsville Rd and meet your guide on right shoulder parking area immediately on right.

From the North (Nolichucky Outpost and Johnson City, TN area)Go South east on I 26 Interstate towards Asheville, NC.
Take exit 15 at Barnardsville and Jupiter Exit. At end of exit ramp, turn right on Barnardsville Rd and meet your guide on right shoulder parking area immediately on right.

Directions to Snakes Den Rock from the Meeting Spot (if you’re late and miss your guide). Take Barnardsville Road east towards Barnardsville. Turn Right at firehouse onto Dillingham road.
Follow Dillingham Road to where it enters the forest on a gravel road.
Follow gravel road until you pass Snakes Den Rock on left and see your group.
