Hiking Shoes for 12 day campers. Not necessary for 6 day campers. Inexpensive, lightweight, ankle height or over the ankle Gore-Tex shoes work great. We like Nike, Merrell, Columbia or Hi-Tec. Heavy leather mountaineering boots are not needed.
Old Tennis Shoes that you don’t mind getting wet and dirty. An extra pair may be substituted for sports sandals/water shoes.
Sport Sandals with a heel strap that will stay on your feet while rafting or swimming. Recommend Teva Hurricane Campmor # 14013 or equivalent. Please no leather sandals or flip flops for swimming or rafting.
Rain Gear - inexpensive waterproof ponchos are fine. If you bring a rain jacket and pants, make sure they are waterproof, not water resistant. The jacket should have a hood. We like Campmor Ponchos # 77704 or equivalent.
Mid-weight warm Fleece Top (200 weight minimum) or a warm 100% wool sweater, or equivalent.
Long Underwear - synthetic polypropylene is best. Recommended for 12 day campers. Great for chilly mornings!

What to bring. What not to bring.
MAG Provides The majority of the gear and equipment for camp is provided. This includes tents, backpacks, ground pads and all technical gear. Campers may bring their own equipment, but staff will evaluate the appropriateness of personal gear on the first day.
What not to bring Please help us promote camp values and safety. As they attract animals, please do not bring snacks, candy, gum or other foods (we will have plenty of snacks and fruit for the trip). Also, do not bring fireworks, knives of any sort, hatchets, anything that is a spray aerosol, shovels, inappropriate comics or magazines, I-Pods, CD players, expensive cameras, hair dryers, or electronic games. Cell phones used for plane travel will be kept in the camp office during camp. Camper check-in on arrival to will include an inspection of their belongings to ensure they have everything needed for camp. Not needed or prohibited items like electronics will be kept in the camp office or sent home with parents.
***FYI Campers are hard on clothes and gear, so inexpensive is best! Choose small and lightweight. In the outdoors, avoid cotton when possible. Synthetics dry and stay warm better than cotton.
Lost and Found We know that parents want campers to return home with all of their belongings! Everyone will have similar looking gear…..so PLEASE MARK EVERYTHING clearly with a Sharpie. Despite our best efforts, campers occasionally lose things. Please talk to your camper about his/her personal responsibility in keeping up with his or her belongings!
Airplane Travel Carry-on a book-bag or day pack with a change of clothes, prescriptions and anything your camper might need for the first few hours or night should his/her checked duffel arrive late. Many campers carry-on their duffle bag with everything needed for camp. Cell-phones and music player are great for travel, but will be held in the office during camp.
