Guide Employment Opportunities for 2008

Mountain Adventure Guides is looking for raft guides, summer adventure camp guides and camp counselors, rock climbing guides and support staff for the 2008 season.

Mountain Adventure Guides has guided many thousands of clients in western North Carolina. We are committed to providing clients, guests and campers with the highest quality adventure programming, guides and equipment. MAG holds commercial outfitter and guide licenses with the United States Forest Service, Pisgah National Forest - Pisgah, Appalachian and French Broad Ranger Districts.

MAG is recognized as a leading outfitter in the southeast. We've been recognized in Men's Journal, American Scouting Digest, National Geographic Adventure, Pilots Away, Diversion Magazine for Physicians at Leisure, and Hooked on the Outdoors.

Being the best is our mission and our passion. We have worked continuously each season to raise the bar on our high quality of standards and this next season will be no exception. We seek staff who are also leaders, who want to be their best and work with the best. It takes discipline, determination, a positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and a desire to grow. It's hard work at times. It's rewarding in many ways. It's a lot of fun most of the time.

Our doors are open from mid-March through October with our peak season being June through August. We are looking for energetic, people-oriented individuals, who are committed to working and playing hard. Many of us at Mountain Adventure Guides enjoy working and playing together. We are seeking responsible applicants who are friendly with strong people skills, a good attitude, and a willingness to work to provide the superior level of customer service for which we strive. Our season runs from March to November, with our greatest need for staff occurring during the summer months.

Raft Guide Training School - French Broad and Nolichucky Rivers

Raft guiding is rated by USA Today as one of the top 5 travel jobs!

We require that raft guides be at least 19 and have finished a year of college, and that you have experienced whitewater rafting, kayaking or canoeing prior to applying. We are seeking committed/responsible applicants with strong people skills, a good attitude and a willingness to work to provide the superior level of customer service and guiding skill for which we are known.

Adventure Camp Guides

(Internships are also available if needed for college course work)

We're looking for committed/responsible college students with the following characteristics: strong people skills, a great attitude and friendly, sunny disposition, experience working with teens, high moral character, stellar references, sober, tobacco free, excellent physical fitness and a willingness to work hard to provide our students with a safe, fun filled adventure in the mountains. Adventure camp guide positions are extremely rewarding AND demanding - full on 24/7 for 7, 14 or 18 days with a few days off between sessions.

Camp season begins with clinics and orientation TBD with camp ending August 3rd. Pay is based on position, experience and certifications. Plan on arriving June 5th by 4:00 PM.

Qualifications: At least 21 years old, WFR/CPR certified, entering junior or senior year in college or recent graduate, clean driving record. Well rounded outdoor experience with solid backpacking and wilderness skills. We require previous camp experience and formal, professional training (NOLS, Outward Bound and/or Wilderness Leadership Majors). Experience with working with kids. Demonstrated leadership experience.

Assistant Adventure Camp Guides

Qualifications: At least 19 years old and have completed a year or two of college. Personal outdoor experience.

For assistant guides, we look for personal integrity, experience working with kids, personal outdoor experience (especially backpacking), strong work ethic, experience at other camps (camper or counselor) and leadership potential. We prefer previous experience working with teens (camp, volunteer).

Assistant to the Program Director

(Internships are also available if needed for college course work). Position filled for 2008

We're looking for a committed/responsible college student with the following characteristics: strong people skills and work ethic, a great attitude, friendly, a sunny disposition, have stellar references, and have a high moral character. Their duties would include: assisting the program director in the daily operation of camp, inspecting camp facilities, cleaning, and driving. Qualifications: At Least 21 years old, have two years college credit, a valid drivers license, and have demonstrated leadership skills.

Base Camp Assistant Position filled for 2008

(Internships are also available if needed for college course work)

We’re looking for someone responsible and committed who can be the go to person. Job duties would include cleaning, helping in the retail store, cooking, driving, and helping with the day to day operations of MAG. Qualifications: Must be 18 years old and have a valid driver’s license.

Base Camp Cook Position Filled for 2008

We’re looking for someone responsible and able to prepare meals for 40 campers. Duties would include shopping, cooking, cleaning, and organizing. Qualifications: Must be 18 and have a valid driver’s license.

Photographer: Position filled for 2008

(Internships are also available if needed for college course work)

We’re looking for someone to take whitewater rafting pictures on the Nolichucky River. Qualifications: Must be 18 years old and have a valid driver’s license. (Experience preferred but not required)

Rock Climbing Guides

We're looking for seasonal, committed/responsible guides with strong people skills, a good attitude and a willingness to provide our clients with a great day on the rock. You should lead traditional multipitch to 5.10 and have at least 4 years of personal climbing experience. We require rock guides to be at least 21 years old and WFR/CPR certified. We require that you have previous experience guiding for at least 2 seasons in WNC and have completed training with NOLS, Outward Bound and/or climbing courses in a University we know.
