Guided Rock Climbing in Asheville, North Carolina

Mountain Adventure Guides has guided thousands of clients in the Asheville, NC area, since 1999. We are well qualified to guide you and your friends or family on an exciting day of rock climbing. MAG operates under a Special Use Permit and license for guiding rock climbing trips in in Pisgah National Forest in North Carolina.

Introduction to rock climbing in NC.No experience is required and MAG provides all of the gear, including climbing shoes. We guide adults and kids ages 6+.

Guided Top-Roping Rock Climbing Experiences

Offered in the mountains outside Asheville, NC. Our experiential format will quickly get you out on the rock. Your guide will fit you with all technical gear, including climbing shoes. No experience is required and Mountain Adventure Guides provides all of the gear and an experienced rock climbing guide.

Half-day of climbing: About 3 hours with your guide. Includes introductory instruction and climbing on easy to moderate routes of 35-100 feet in height. The focus is on safety, learning basic skills and having fun climbing. Cost is $65 per person. There will be other novice and/or beginner climbers on your trip. For a complete day, go whitewater rafting on the French Broad River in the afternoon after climbing! Groups of 9 or more required to book.

Full-day of climbing: About 6+ hours with your guide. Includes introductory instruction, climbing and a climbers lunch of bagels and PB&J, fruit, chips and cookies. The focus is on safety, learning basic skills and having fun. Cost is $85 per person. Groups of 4+ required to book.

  

Groups: Discounts for 9+ people: $5 per person discount for half-day trips and $10 per person discount for full-day trips. Maximum group sizes are limited by government regulations and our desire to maximize individual participation and instruction. We will meet near the climbing area 20 min. outside of Asheville, NC at 8:30 AM. Please be on time.

MAG provides:

MAG provides an experienced climbing guide and all technical gear, including harnesses, helmets and climbing shoes. Our full-day trip includes a climbers lunch of bagels and PB&J, fruit, gorp and chips.

You provide:

You provide appropriate clothing for an active day in the mountains, day pack, at least 2 liters of water (per person), snacks and transportation to the climbing area. Lunch is provided on full-day trips.

• Day pack, sunscreen, whatever medications you need to have on hand, eye glass retaining straps if you wear glasses, sunglasses, and camera•  Tennis shoes are fine.
•  Clothing to suit the season and weather: Summer - loose fitting pants or shorts and a t-shirt, rain/wind gear. Warm layers in fall and spring: fleece/wool top, warm hat, nylon wind shell and gloves
•  Gratuities are customary for climbing guides and not included in the cost of the trip.

Mountain Adventure Guides holds commercial outfitter licenses for rock climbing in NC with the United States Forest Service.

Our owner Richard Dulworth first climbed in Western North Carolina in 1977, first guided in 1983 and has managed rock climbing programs in the area since 1994. A graduate of Hampden-Sydney College, Richard has worked as a whitewater rafting, rock climbing and backpacking guide, trip leader, manager, instructor trainer and consultant. He and his wife Jeanne founded MAG in 1999.

MAG Guide Ron Dierolf is a chemical engineer who has been backpacking, rock and mountain climbing, canoeing, and kayaking since 1964. A rock climbing guide since 1997, Ron has worked for the Colorado and North Carolina Outward Bound Schools and Wilderness Inquiry. He currently guides rock and kayaking activities for several programs in Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Indiana and teaches the rock climbing course at Murray State University. As a member of the American Mountain Guides Association he held a certification as a Top Rope Site Manager from 1998 until 2008. Ron is certified as a Wilderness First Responder. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Illinois Climbers Association.

MAG climbing guide P. Gregory Parrish.MAG Guide P. Gregory Parrish is a graduate of Brevard College with a degree in Wilderness Leadership and Experiential Education. Greg has more than ten years of climbing experience and first guided rock climbing trips with Mountain Adventure Guides in 2000. He has extensive experience and knowledge in rock climbing in Western North Carolina, as well as out west and Alaska. He is a certified Wilderness First Responder.

Climbing dates book well in advance, especially for summer and weekends, but we will try to accommodate your short notice request for guiding.

Booking your trip: Call 1-866-813-5210 or book your trip online. We accept Visa, MC, AX and Discover. Once you book online, you will immediately receive a confirmation, which will include directions to the meeting spot (approximately 20 min. from Asheville).

Liability: We assume no liability for personal injury or loss of personal belongings. Everyone travels and participates at his/her own risk. You will be required to sign a personal injury waiver and assumption of risk/photo waiver before your trip. Waiver

Rain or Cancelled Trips: If we are forced to cancel your trip due to rain (possible) or for any other reason (unlikely), we will reschedule or refund your money (partial refund for partial days) - your choice. Call us the day before your trip if you are concerned about rain.

Cancellation policy: If you cancel your trip for any reason up to 30 days before your trip date, we will refund your payment less $25. Your entire payment is non-refundable 30 or fewer days before your trip.

If we are forced to cancel your trip due to rain (possible) or for any other reason (unlikely), we will refund all of your payments in full.Call us the day before your trip if you are concerned about the weather. The typical forecast in summer is "a chance of scattered thunderstorms."If you are late and miss your trip for any reason there will be no cash refund.
