Camp Home Details FAQ What to Bring
Admission
MAG camp is best suited for physically active kids, who play by the rules and are committed to spending time away from home in an all outdoor setting. Prior experience is not required for enrollment. We encourage boys and girls of good character to attend. Our camp is not appropriate for children with emotional or behavioral problems, or children who do not actively want to attend an outdoor adventure program. Your child must be fully informed of the nature of our program and included in the decision to attend.
ENROLLMENT TERMS
Tuition Includes
Tuition includes round-trip transportation from the Asheville airport to Base Camp, all major equipment, food and instruction costs. Tuition does not include $35 per week recommended pocket money, minor gear (i.e. headlamp, sleeping bag, etc.) personal clothing and footwear, a physical exam by your physician, or medical expenses beyond basic first aid.
Application
To apply, do so online at our website. Although there is no final deadline for accepting applications, we encourage early application, as space is limited per group. Acceptance of the applicant is contingent on receipt and approval of all forms, including the medical form.
Deposit and Final Payment
To reserve a space in the program, we require a deposit of $200 for one-week sessions and $300 for two-week and eighteen day sessions. We cannot hold spaces without receiving payment. The deposit is applied toward the full tuition. Final payment is due March 1st for all sessions. A $50 late fee will be charged for each child if payment is not postmarked by March 1. A processing fee of $35 will be charged for returned checks. Applications received after March 1st must be accompanied by full payment.
Confirmation of Receipt; Registration Forms
If you apply online, we will send an e-mail confirming receipt of the application, and you can immediately download and print out our registration package (including transportation information, what to bring, a medical form, waivers and other information). Forms must be returned to us at least 45 days prior to the starting date to continue to hold your space (or within two weeks after receiving the registration package if you applied within the 45 day period). A $25 administrative fee will be assessed if all forms are not received within 2 weeks of the session start date. The medical form must be completely filled out and signed by a physician and parent/guardian certifying that the applicant is in good physical and mental condition. We recommend that you make an appointment for a physical exam as soon as possible if the applicant has not had one within a year prior to the session date; your tuition will be forfeited if we have not received the medical form prior to our deadline and are subsequently unable to accept the applicant due to medical or behavioral issues.
Cancellation and Refund Policy
Cancellations must be confirmed in writing. Our cancellation policy is based on our investment in food and equipment purchases, activity deposits, program planning, and staff training. Due to our small group size, many sessions fill early. Cancellation on short notice often prevents others from attending, and we may be unable to recover our expenses. Because of the financial consequences of canceling within 45 days of a session, we strongly recommend that you purchase refundable airline tickets and camp/travel insurance, which will reimburse you for cancellation under certain circumstances (e.g., medical reasons, family illness, etc).
Tuition will be refunded for cancellations according to the following schedule:
Prior to March 1 .............................…………………........Full refund, less a $75 processing fee
Between March 1 and 45 days prior to the session ...… Refund of all tuition, less the deposit
Within 45 days .......................................................……No refund
If a cancellation within 45 days of the session is due to a non-preexisting illness or injury (documented by the attending physician), we will apply all amounts with-held to future tuition (less a $75 processing fee and any amounts already committed to an outfitter for a contracted activity). There will be no refund or rebate for late arrival, early withdrawal for any reason or dismissal for cause. No refund will be given if a participant is sent home for behavioral issues or otherwise violating Camp Terms or our Participation Agreement, or if a participant voluntarily withdraws for whatever reason. We reserve the right to cancel sessions or change schedules due to unforeseen circumstances. Certain trips require a minimum number of participants. In the rare event that we must cancel a session prior to the starting date, we will refund all amounts paid. Our liability is limited solely to your tuition paid.
Itineraries
Our goal is to follow the sample schedules and itineraries described on our website. Adverse weather conditions and other unforeseen circumstances may necessitate changes in the schedule. If an activity must be postponed or cancelled for any reason, every attempt will be made to reschedule it or replace it with a similar one.
Safety / Risk
In all outdoor adventure programming involving travel in remote areas and the unpredictable forces of nature, there will be inherent risk of injury or other losses. Our highest priority is your child's safety. We are well qualified to lead all aspects of your child’s program. MAG has an excellent safety record. We minimize risk through low staff to camper ratios and small group size, extensive preparation, staff training, use of high-quality equipment, and safety policies and procedures. We also provide the supervision, instruction, and equipment needed to minimize risk while participating in camp program activities. Please note that we contract out for services in some of our Specialized Trips.
Medical Treatment We shall have the right to give first aid to any participant. We shall also have the right to retain the services of a physician, or if necessary, to hospitalize a participant. All expenses related to physician care, medication, or hospitalization (including travel expense if the participant has to be sent home) shall be paid by the parent/guardian or reimbursed to us (such amounts will be billed). All participants must be covered by medical insurance. If you do not have medical insurance, we request that you purchase an inexpensive policy specifically for the length of stay with us.
Equipment Destruction or Loss
The parent/guardian will be responsible for the misuse, willful destruction, or loss by the participant of any MAG equipment. The cost of such items will be billed.
It is important to understand that our program has not been designed for the special needs of children with behavioral or emotional problems, or troubled kids; therefore, we require that you fully disclose, before final admission and acceptance of your child, any medical, behavioral or psychological condition(s) your child has - please speak with a Camp Director Richard or Jeanne Dulworth. Any condition(s) must be accompanied by a doctor’s statement regarding the camper’s ability to participate. If our program is inappropriate for your child, we are happy to make referrals to other programs that may be appropriate for him or her.
