The USA Raft Nolichucky River Outpost is located at 1005 Jones Branch Road, near Erwin TN (approximately 4 miles from Exit 40 I 26). Our outpost is approximately a 50 minute drive from Asheville, NC and 1.5 hours from Boone, NC.
Trips start on time rain or shine.Please arrive at our outpost approximately 30 minutes before your scheduled trip time.
From the South: (Asheville, North Carolina)From the Asheville area, (approximately 50 minute drive), please take I-240 to Exit 4A, I-26W to Tennessee. You will continue up and over Sam’s Gap on I-26 W which is the NC/TN border. After coming down the other side of the mountain, still on I-26W, you will look for the Jackson-Love Exit, Exit 40, after the concrete median barrier ends. From there follow direction at the bottom of the page titled "After Exiting off I-26".
From the North: (Johnson City, TN) From the Johnson City area, (approximately 25 minute drive), please take I-26E toward Erwin, TN and NC. Exit off I-26E at Jackson-Love Exit 40 in TN. From there follow direction at the bottom of the page titled "After Exiting off I-26".
From the East: (Boone/Blowing Rock, NC) From the Boone/Blowing Rock area, (approximately 1.5 hour drive on mountain road; allow for extra driving time if you are not used to driving on mountain roads). Please take US 321 N out of town. Stay on US 321 for about 50 miles. There will be a couple of turns, just follow signs for US 321. Merge onto I-26 East, toward Erwin, TN via ramp on the Left. Follow I-26E for approximately 15 miles to Jackson-Love Exit, Exit 40 in TN. From there follow direction at the bottom of the page titled "After Exiting off I-26".
After Exiting off I-26 at Jackson-Love Highway, Exit 40 in TN:
Take first right onto Temple Hill Road, where you will pass a Holiday Inn and Appco gas station. Go 3/4 of a mile on Temple Hill Road and turn left onto River Road. There will be a large brown sign reading "Chestoa Recreation Area" with a rafter picture on it as a reference for the left turn onto River Road. On River Road go ¼ of a mile to stop sign and turn left onto bridge crossing the Nolichucky River. Turn right immediately after crossing the bridge onto Jones Branch Road (there is a USA Raft sign at the turn). Continue on Jones Branch for approximately 1 ¼ miles to USA Raft Outpost at the end of the road on the right.
